No, you can simply type in the UPC by hand and the search results will be the same. A scanner is just faster for capturing barcodes.

That means those particular fields could not be located for the item. This is usually caused by one of two things. Either the website that the information is being retrieved from does not return a valid search result (when searching by UPC) or the search result for that item is displayed in an unusual manner that the needed information cannot be easily parsed out (such as the title of the item or the minumum price).

Why does my search result sometimes display garbled information?
